Date and time Sunday, April 11, 2010 from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Harvard University Science Center (registration begins at 12 noon).
Guest Speaker: Will Shortz
We are delighted to welcome as our special guest Will Shortz, puzzle editor for the New York Times and NPR puzzlemaster. In between puzzle rounds, Mr. Shortz will speak to the crowd and lead audience-participation activities.
Crossword Puzzles
We will complete four timed, unpublished puzzles provided by Will Shortz from upcoming editions of New York Times -- including a puzzle constructed specifically for this event by local cruciverbalists Joon Pahk and Brenden Emmett Quigley. Everyone is encouraged to solve the puzzles, whether or not you are competing in the tournament (see next). The puzzles are a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday level of difficulty.
Tournament Competition
Registered attendees may compete for prizes and recognition in three divisions: individual undergraduate, individual overall, and pair-solving. Undergraduates may compete in both individual categories simultaneously. Prizes are autographed puzzle books from top American crossword authors and editors. Scoring rules will follow those of American Crossword Puzzle Tournament (no on-stage finals) and will be explained in full at the event.
In order to compete, you must register in advance by securing a ticket from the Harvard Box Office.
